While we may not normally think of cats as athletes, the Siamese certainly exhibits athletic abilities, active nature, and slim physique. The slender, muscular build as well as the extroverted character make the Siamese one of the most well-loved cats breeds. Anyone who has seen the breed at play can attest to the athleticism these cats possess. The energetic playfulness, unique appearance, and wonderful temperament make this one of the most popular cat breeds.
In order to maintain the lean build of the breed, Royal Canin Siamese 38 contains 38% protein and reduced fat content to reduce the likelihood of fat accumulation. By deriving a higher percentage of energy from the protein in the diet (instead of fat or carbohydrate), obesity is less likely to occur. Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) helps to preferentially produce muscle tissue over fat tissue. Additionally, L-carnitine has been added to utilize fat reserves as an energy source. All of these features combined result in less fat tissue and more muscle tissue to preserve a lean build and prevent obesity.
By analyzing the consumption habits of the Siamese, Royal Canin researchers found that these cats may eat up to 22 meals per day! The meal size is small relative to other cats of similar size, and the ingestion speed is rapid with little chewing. These factors can lead to regurgitation and predispose the cat to dental disease. Siamese 38 has been designed with a specific kibble that helps slow the rate of ingestion and promotes chewing. By inducing more thorough chewing, a "brushing" effect occurs. Siamese 38 also contains sodium tripolyphosphate, which binds calcium in the mouth. By binding the calcium, the bacteria associated with plaque can not incorporate it into the formation of tartar.
Some Siamese cats may have sensitive GI tracts. For this, we have formulated Siamese 38 with some special features to improve digestive security. A combination of both soluble and insoluble fibers has been added to regulate intestinal motility and contribute to overall GI health. Ingredients such as FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides) and MOS (mannan-oligosaccharides) help stimulate immunity, nourish beneficial bacteria, and decrease proliferation of certain pathogenic bacteria. The nutrients in Siamese 38 come from the use of highly digestible ingredients. Omega 3 fatty acids are added at supplemental levels to decrease any inflammation in intestinal tract.
From their beautiful blue eyes to their vocal temperament, the Siamese is a special breed. Few other breeds enjoy the recognition and popularity of these cats. Their athleticism and appearance make them unique, but also impart distinct nutritional needs. Royal Canin Siamese 38 provides a specialized way to meet these needs.
