Hundreds of pet foodcompany volunteers donate day of labor and 3,400 pounds of food to assistFriends of Homeless Animals
St.Louis, July 18, 2012 – Hundreds of Royal Canin associates gathered inWashington, D.C. this week for an annual corporate retreat and to donate both aday of labor and 3,400 pounds of food to Northern Virginia’s Friends ofHomeless Animals (FOHA) animal shelter.
The 280company volunteers arrived at the shelter Wednesday morning, providingapproximately 2,400 hours of manpower to rebuild kennel runs and outdoor playyards, mend perimeter fencing, landscape and care for the 110 dogs and 60 catshoused at the facility. Royal Canin also provided and installed new signage, anelectric gate and new furniture for FOHA’s welcome and adoption center.
Royal Caninbegan the annual service day tradition in 2009 in New Orleans when associates spenta day rebuilding homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Since then, thecompany has left a positive impact on communities across the country. In 2010, associatesbuilt a park in Hot Springs, Va., and in 2011, the group renovated SummitCounty Animal Shelter in Keystone, Colo.
Royal Caninchose Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) as its 2012 service day beneficiarybecause the shelter shares the company’s core values of knowledge and respectfor animals, as well as a long history of putting the animal first. FOHA is anon-profit, no-kill, 100 percent volunteer-run shelter that has been servingthe Washington metropolitan area since 1973. The organization is dedicated to savingabandoned and abused cats and dogs, providing medical care, rehabilitation, andadoption services.
